Tall Japanese Ship, the Kaiwo Maru, coming to San Francisco!

Date: Saturday May 8, 2010

NJAHS is proud to support the welcoming activities for the Kaiwo Maru – one of two tall training ships of the Institute of Martime Training in Japan –sponsored by the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco. The purpose of the visit to San Francisco of the Kaiwo Maru is to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Kanrin Maru to San Francisco, the first Japanese ship to visit the US. The Kaiwo Maru will be open to the public on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Pier 27 in San Francisco from 9a – 11:30a and 1p – 4p. We are pleased that our exhibit, 1860 Pacific Overtures: the First Japanese Embassy to America, which includes the story of the Kanrin Maru, will be on display during the event. Please come join us!
