Film screenings about Japanese American wartime experience is on every Wednesday evenings. Furikake popcorn and green tea will be provided. Donation suggested.

May 19: "Days of Waiting", "The Red Pines" and "An American Story"
Tom Graves, a writer of An American Story will join us!!!

Days of Waiting. Steven Okazaki. Academic Award Winner: Best Documentary Short Subject 1990. The story of Estelle Ishigo, one of the few Caucasians interned with Japanese Americans during World War II. The wife of a Japanese American, Ishigo refused to be separated from her husband and was interned along with him. Based on the personal papers of Estelle Ishigo and her novel Lone Heart Mountain (1990, 28 minutes).

The Red Pines. Lucy Ostrander. A short film for university and K-12 classrooms, explores the Japanese American community on Puget Sound's Bainbridge Island. It shows the cultural forces that enabled many of its members to return and rebuild their lives after exile and incarneration by their own government during Wirld War II (2003, 12 munites).

An American Story. Tom Graves. This cinematography short tells the story of Japanese American veterans and also the story of America’s willingness, although at times reluctant, to accept new citizens who may not look or talk or worship as we do (2009 , 14 minutes).
