Teacher Institute: Historic Inquiry and Place-based Learning in Japanese American Confinement Sites 2011-2012
Who: Secondary School Teachers of History, Social Science , Government, and Literature in the San Francisco Bay Area, San Jose, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Seattle/Bainbridge Island, Salt Lake City, UT
What: In-service Institute and field trips for teachers to learn and create historic inquiry and place- based cur-riculum based on the Japanese American experience during WWII. Stipends and professional develop-ment credits available for participating teachers!
Where: The historic Presidio of San Francisco, Bainbridge Island, WA — former departure site for the exclu-sion zone, World War II confinement sites at Tule Lake, CA (optional), Manzanar, CA (optional), and Topaz, UT (optional)
When: San Francisco 4 day intensive Institute: June 25 - 28, 2012
Optional Field Trips to: Tule Lake, CA July 1-4, 2012, Manzanar, CA April 2012, Bainbridge Island, WA, dates TBA, Topaz, UT, dates TBA
