Bound By Honor: Japanese American Soldiers in World War II Comics
Curated by Bryan Yagi
Exhibition is up now!
When Bryan Yagi was growing up, most Asian characters in comics were unflattering racist caricatures, oftentimes the opposition of white heroes. Asian American representation in comics was nonexistent. In 1966, to his surprise, Bryan purchased G.I. Combat, Issue #118, depicting a Japanese American hero; a Japanese American soldier from the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.
This exhibition spotlights comics from Bryan Yagi’s collection featuring the 442nd RCT fighting for honor, respect, acceptance, and for their country.
