Shisuko (Yasuda) Kurosawa
Shisuko Kurosawa was born in the United States but raised by her grandparents in Japan. After graduating from high school in Japan, she traveled alone to the United States and began doing housework while attending American grammar school. While in American school, she met and married her husband and lived with him on a ranch in Sacramento. After Pearl Harbor, she was evicted and imprisoned at Marysville Temporary WCCA “Assembly Center”, then Tule Lake, Jerome, and Heart Mountain WRA Concentration Camps before resettling and starting over after the war. During her incarceration, she had multiple children, and experienced pregnancy and birth in camp.
