Shizue “May” (Nakamatsu) Mukai
Shizue “May” Mukai, a Nisei and native of California, discusses her upbringing in a farming family and her experiences at Poston WRA Concentration Camp. Although her family faced multiple hardships, including the loss of two siblings in accidents, her mother giving birth in camp, and financial adversity during the Great Depression and after the war, Mukai also describes positive experiences she had in camp and beyond, and stresses the importance of enjoying work and making the most of life.
