Stanley Masami Umeda
Stanley Umeda discusses his upbringing on a farm in Sacramento and the undercurrent of racial prejudice he experienced before being forced into Fresno Temporary WCCA “Assembly Center” and later Jerome WRA Concentration Camp. When Jerome closed, Umeda were transferred to Gila River WRA Concentration Camp with his family. He describes how he and his family faced financial hardships upon returning to their farm after leaving camp, and speaks about his experience learning more about the injustices done to him and other Japanese Americans starting from when he was in high school, and ends the interview with his perspective on achieving redress and reparations, and how it is imperative to share the stories of Japanese Americans in camp considering the fact that similar injustices can happen again.
