Terrie Joyce (Watanabe) Kaneko
Terrie Joyce (Watanabe) Kaneko, a Nisei born to immigrants from Kobe and Tokyo, was raised in Seattle until she was forcibly removed at the age of 14. Kaneko recalls how treatment towards herself and other Japanese Americans changed after Pearl Harbor, with references towards specific ethnic groups. She also describes the feelings of fear experienced by herself and her Japanese American peers in the period leading up to incarceration. Having been incarcerated at Puyallup Temporary WCCA “Assembly Center” and Minidoka Concentration Camp, she details the conditions she experienced and discusses the effects of camp on her family structure and dynamic.
