Stockton Assembly Center (U.S. government name) opened on May 10, 1942 and was located on the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds. The site included 125 barracks in the racetrack infield and 40 more east of the fairgrounds and was populated by a total of 4,390 persons of Japanese ancestry.<\/p>\n

Stockton closed on October 17, 1942 and was in operation for 160 days. The incarcerees were mostly transferred to Rohwer, but some were also sent to Gila River.<\/p>\n
