For further use of digital images or for ordering higher resolution photographs and scans:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. All requests must be made in writing by agreeing to the Photographic Reproduction Terms and Conditions<\/a> and filling out the Digital Photo Reproduction & Use Form (PDF)<\/a> and sent to Lilith Benjamin, NJAHS Collections lilith@njahs.org<\/a>. (See source notation in Digital File column). Research \/ processing fees and licensing fees will be assessed. See fee schedule.<\/a><\/p>\n

All high resolution images are not to be used in any manner without the expressed and prior written permission of the National Japanese American Historical Society (NJAHS). Such digital images must be used for non-commercial research, educational and personal\/archival use only. Permission to reproduce images is valid pursuant to these Terms and Conditions and the written Permission Statement provided.<\/p>\n

2. Citations and sourcing of such files must ultimately abide by the copyright policies set forth by the National Japanese American Historical Society, Inc. These images may have donor, copyright or other restrictions. Permission to release images for digital reproduction of objects will be made on a case by case basis.<\/p>\n

3. Digital files at your requested resolution in your requested filetype (JPG, PNG, TIFF, etc.) can be burned to DVD and sent by mail or sent by email.<\/p>\n

4. Requests for hard copies can be made but costs for processing and handling fees will apply.<\/p>\n

5. Allow for 2-3 weeks processing. Some photographs of objects can be retaken with a higher quality camera. Documents and photographs can be scanned for higher resolution.<\/p>\n

6. Once the Photographic Reproduction Terms and Conditions<\/a> the Digital Photo Reproduction & Use Form (PDF)<\/a> have been filled and signed with assistance from the NJAHS Collections Manager, payment must be provided by check or by credit card using the NJAHS Photo Reproduction Secure Payment Portal<\/a> before the digital reproductions will be made available to you.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Most photographs of objects in the database were taken at: 3456 x 2304 pixels, 300 dpi, jpg.
\n\u2022 Maximum resolution of photographed objects NJAHS can provide: 6000 x 4000 pixels, 300 dpi, jpg, tiff.
\n\u2022 Most documents and photographs in the database are presented at: 1500px along the long edge, 300 dpi, PDF.
\n\u2022 Most documents and photographs were originally scanned at: 2800px along the long edge, 600 dpi, tiff.
\n\u2022 Maximum DPI of the scanner: 2400 dpi. Pixels may vary based on the size of the object being scanned.<\/a><\/p>\n

Requests for High Resolution Digital Reproduction of Objects in Private Individual Collections<\/h2>\n

You can check this by looking at the Collection Name<\/em> of objects in the database. If the Collection Name<\/em> does not say National Japanese American Historical Society, the object belongs to a private individual collection.<\/p>\n

Requests for Full Japanese Latin American Oral History Transcriptions \/ Translations<\/h2>\n

These transcripts are part of the Japanese Peruvian Oral History Project (JPOHP) Collection. JPOHP is the leading community resource promoting the documentation, preservation, and interpretation of the World War II experiences of Japanese Latin Americans, who survived US government, internment, prisoner exchange, and forced deportation, and their struggle for redress.<\/p>\n

The excerpts on this website may be used only for non-commercial, educational purposes for research and teaching. References from this website shall state: “Japanese Peruvian Oral History Project.” For further use of oral history excerpt, access to full oral history interview, and \/ or audio file of interview, please contact the National Japanese American Historical Society via email:\u00a0njahs@njahs.org<\/a>. JPOHP and NJAHS will review access requests on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n

Requests for Digital Reproduction of NARA Drawings, Plans, Maps<\/h2>\n

Requests can be made for copies of the digital reproductions of Architectural Drawings and Engineering Plans & Maps obtained from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) that are in the possession of the National Japanese American Historical Society. Not all NARA sourced Architectural Drawings and Engineering Plans & Maps are currently in the possession of NJAHS. (See source<\/em> notation in Digital File<\/strong> column). A research \/ processing fee will be assessed. See fee schedule<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2. Citations and sourcing of such files must abide by the Copyright and Restrictions set forth by the National Archives and Records Administration. Most government records are in the public domain. However, some records may have donor, copyright, or other restrictions. Please check out the NARA website<\/a>
\n3. All Architectural Drawings & Engineering Maps can also be obtained from the National Archives Records and Administration (NARA), under Cartographic and Architectural Reference.\u00a0Contact NARA for\u00a0more information on ordering reproductions<\/a>. Allow for 4- 6 weeks for processing depending on the number of files. (Note: NARA allows only 10 scans per day)<\/p>\n

Requests for Onsite Research or Viewing of NJAHS Collections<\/h2>\n

1. Requests for access to the NJAHS Collections located at NJAHS headquarters at 1684 Post Street, San Francisco, CA. 94115 must be made in writing by appointment only.<\/b><\/p>\n

2. Researches must agree and abide by the Conditions of Access Form.<\/p>\n

Artifact Donation<\/h2>\n

The National Japanese American Historical Society, Inc.’s collection is made up of artifacts that have been donated by those who wish to see their history preserved. We accept prewar, WWII, and postwar artifacts that tell the story of the Japanese American experience, with a focus on camp objects and items related to the Japanese Americans in the U.S. Army during WWII (MIS and 100 \/ 442nd RCT, 522nd FABN, etc.). Please understand that space in the NJAHS Archives and the MIS Historic Learning Center are extremely limited, so precedence goes to objects that fill in a gap in the collection and \/ or have good provenance and an interesting historical background. As with all museums, we also cannot guarantee that your object will be publicly displayed.<\/p>\n
