Date: January 5, 2019 from 2-4pm
Location: NJAHS Peace Gallery (1684 Post St San Francisco CA 94115)
NJAHS host the first of a series of gatherings which will bring together writers, storytellers, poets, and other artists to share their works to the community at-large. In conjunction with Oshogatsu celebrations occurring throughout the day in Japantown, we want to incorporate the theme of “hope” and “being grateful” in our premiere program. Funded in part by Henri & Tomoye Takahashi Charitable Foundation, Grants for the Arts.
Artists we’ve invited include: Lauren Ito, Shizue Seigel, Roji Oyama, The Sistah Friends, and Y. Jerry Waki.
MAKING WAVES comes a year after the “WAVEs” program in December 2017 which sought to create more opportunities of cross-cultural and inter-generational connections through the arts in San Francisco’s Japantown. This series will draw connections to notable events over the 150 year span of the Japanese American experiences to the broader community engagement issues today.
