NJAHS would like to thank Mark Shigenaga for visiting the American Bon Odori Exhibit at the NJAHS Peace Gallery this past week/July. Mark Shigenaga, a third-generation Japanese American photographer, contributed numerous captivating photographs that enrich our current exhibit. Here he is posing with two of them!
We invite everyone to immerse themselves in the beauty of “American Bon Odori: Dancing in Joy and Remembrance” at the NJAHS Peace Gallery in SF Japantown. Running until September 30, 2024, this exhibit commemorates the 125th anniversary of the Buddhist Churches of America. Curated by Dr. Wynn Kiyama and Jane Suiei Naito, it features archival photos, film clips, and artifacts that chronicle the enduring legacy of Obon dancing in the United States.
Join us in celebrating this cultural heritage and explore the sights and sounds that resonate through generations. For more information on our programs and workshops, please visit our event page.
